Finding Serendipity ~ Book Review

Finding Serendipity, written by Angelica Banks, is a fun adventure filled with magic in the world of imagination, that is also a wonderful mother-daughter story.

The author Angelica Banks is actually two writers, Heather Rose and Danielle Wood from Tasmania. They have six children between the tow of them and have created a wonderful children story in Finding Serendipity.

The story follows Tuesday McGillycuddy and her dog Baxterr on an adventure in Tuesday's mother imagined world of Vivienne Small, a character whose books have made her a world famous author.

The adventure is so exciting, Celeste and I wanted to keep reading chapter after chapter! I read this story aloud to her and we were both hooked from the beginning.

One of my favourite quotes from the book is when Tuesday meets the Librarian, shortly after she explains to her that she is only in this different world because she is looking for her lost mother. The Librarian tries to explain that it is not possible to reach this world without being a writer:

"You came because you have a story inside you wanting to get out. What happened might appear to be magical, but the magic comes from nowhere but within you. It doesn't matter whether you write on a fancy laptop or an old typerwriter or, for that matter, with a pen on a paper napkin. All of that is beside the point. The point is that stories want to be told. Stories have a power of their own, and they choose their writers carefully. But you can't write a story until you've felt it. Breathed it in. Walked with your characters. Talked with them. That's why you come here. To live your story."

Celeste told me she loves this book because "Tuesday goes into the world of her mother's books". Can you imagine being able to visit and explore your favourite story's world? That would be magical!

This story is recommended for ages 8 and up as "middle grade fiction". I enjoyed it just as much as Celeste, who is 10 years old!
