Poetry Tea Time :: Think Like a Tree

We have been enjoying Poetry Teatime every Tuesday afternoon. No matter how the day is going, teatime and poetry turns our day into a better one! The tea, the snack, and listening to poetry and stories make for a great combination. We truly all look forward to it.

The kids and I really enjoyed one of the poems we read today and we all wanted to share it with you. I read from the books in the photo above, as well as "The Children's Classic Poetry Collection". I mentioned in more details our collections here.

The poem came from "The Tree That Time Built". I love this book. We are now in the "Think Like a Tree" section and the poem is the first one:

Think Like a Tree by Karen I. Shragg

Soak up the sun
Affirm life's magic
Be graceful in the wind
Stand tall after a storm
Feel refreshed after it rains
Grow strong without notice
Be prepared for each season
Provide shelter to strangers
Hang tough through a cold spell
Emerge renewed at the first signs of spring
Stay deeply rooted while reaching for the sky
Be still long enough to
hear your own leaves rustling.

The Full Moon Rising picture book was beautiful. It explained the names of full moons per month. It is written Joanne Taylor and illustrated by Susan Tooke.

We enjoyed some chocolate zucchini bread (recipe here) and chocolate vanilla rooibos tea. It was a chocolate day! Andre suggested we add whipped cream to our zucchini bread. We had some of the can stuff and it was a big hit with my kids!

If you are interested in poetry teatime, the idea is very simple: prepare some tea (or juice/lemonade...) bake something tasty or just open a package of cookies, choose some poetry to read aloud. You can do this as fancy or simple as you choose. Set up the table, call your children, and enjoy the time together!
